How to list your property in Australia: A Host's Guide
FarFrom is now welcoming hosts across Australia, and the first 50 Australian-based hosts get their annual membership free. Whether you run a farm in regional Victoria, an eco-retreat in the Daintree or a guesthouse in Cairns, this guide covers how hosting works, what volunteers can help with, and how to get your listing live.
Australian hosts are already joining, so those first 50 spots are going! Here's everything you need to know.
How hosting with FarFrom works
FarFrom connects hosts with travellers who want to slow down, give their time and live like a local. Volunteers help out for a few hours a day, and in return you provide accommodation and meals.
It's a cultural exchange, not a job. Travellers get to know a place from the inside, and you get an extra pair of hands, fresh energy and new friendships from around the world.
All kinds of different property types are using FarFrom; Farms, homesteads, guesthouses, B&Bs, family homes, eco-retreats, vineyards and many more.
What volunteers can help with
Volunteers come with all kinds of skills, these are the most popular ways Australian hosts can use the help:
Type of help | Examples |
Gardening, Harvesting & Planting | Gain an extra set of hands and swap know-how to make a bigger difference for the planet. |
Social Support | Rely on volunteers to ease hardship and lift up people who need a helping hand. |
Community Projects | Make a stronger mark on your neighbourhood with the support of our dedicated travellers. |
Teaching & Sharing | Welcome guests, pick up new languages, and enjoy a true cultural exchange. |
Around the House | Let travellers lend a hand with everyday routines, and form friendships that last a lifetime. |
Communication & Marketing | Boost your online presence with fresh photos, videos, and some support on social media. |
Building & Repairs | Get support keeping your space in shape and making it even better. |
Animal Care | Strengthen your animal welfare efforts with the help of caring volunteers. |
As a rough guide, volunteers help for around 3-4 hours a day, 5 days a week, leaving time to explore. You set the tasks, hours and length of stay in your listing.
Free annual membership for the first 50 Australian hosts
To celebrate our launch in Australia, the first 50 Australian hosts to join get their annual host membership free. That's a full year of listing your property or experience and connecting with volunteers, at no cost.
How to list your property or experience: step by step
Create your host account. Sign up at https://farfromtravel.com/auth/register?type=host and choose “Australia” as your country. Your free membership is applied automatically while places last.
Describe your place. Tell volunteers where you are, what your property or project is about and what a typical day looks like.
Set out the help you need. List the tasks, hours per day, days per week and the minimum and maximum stay.
Explain what you offer. Include the type of accommodation (private room, cabin, entire annexe), the meals you provide and any extras like transport from town, wifi or days out.
Add photos. Show the accommodation, an example of the help you need, the surroundings and you. Listings with good photos get far more messages.
Publish and start chatting. Once your listing is live, volunteers can message you or you can outreach directly to them.
Tips for a great Australian listing
Be clear about how remote you are. Australia is big. Say how far you are from the nearest town, airport or bus stop, and whether volunteers need a car.
Mention the seasons. Let volunteers know when you need help most, such as harvest, summer peak or winter maintenance, and what the weather is like then.
Be upfront about conditions. Heat, mosquitos in the wet season, limited phone signal or long drives are all part of life in parts of Australia. Honest listings lead to happier stays.
Share the local highlights. Nearby beaches, national parks, wineries or walking tracks help volunteers picture their days off.
Cover safety basics. Explain any induction, sun protection, protective gear or rules around animals.
