Travellers exploring

Our story

Our mission is to build a global community where people can live, learn, and contribute through authentic work-for-accommodation experiences.

the way travel has always been done

Far From is not just a booking platform. It's a new way to travel. In a world where travel often feels transactional, we're building something more meaningful; experiences where everyone benefits.

Why FarFrom?

Travel should be more than just a transaction.

Travelling on a budget shouldn't mean compromising on quality. And property owners shouldn't struggle to find trustworthy help for their beautiful homes.

That's where FarFrom steps in. We've created a trusted network where volunteers exchange a few hours of their time and skills for comfortable, private accommodation; transforming travel from an expense into an exchange.

Volunteer experience

Thank you, internet, for the quantity, but it's high time we turn the corner to quality and connection.

The FarFrom philosophy brings quality from both sides.

Expanding Globally

The journey that started it all

In November 2023, our founder, Sarah, set off on a year-long sabbatical with her husband, Nick. Their goal was to help charities, farms, small businesses, and private households in ways that allowed them to travel longer, connect deeply, and meet remarkable people. While they did achieve this, the opportunities that suited their skillsets and work experience were scarce. They discovered that reaching out directly (albeit time consuming), was often more effective than using the tools that were supposed to help.

Sarah realised they couldn't be the only ones manually researching and emailing hosts from scratch. On top of that, work-for-accommodation placements in their home country, the UK, were almost impossible to find! With over a decade's experience leading Product Development teams, she saw an opportunity to build something better; so that future career-breakers could travel the way she and Nick had, but without the friction.

We picked grapes at sunrise in the south of France, helping a beautiful vineyard for 2 weeks.

Island life in the Whitsundays

We helped paint chalets on a private 5* island in the Whitsundays for a month. Just 4 other people living on the entire island with us! Pure paradise!

Dog walks on Australian beaches

Beach sunsets with the pups

After word got around and we had several reviews, we were approached to do several dog sitting jobs across Australia, spending many evenings taking our furry friends for walks on stunning Australian beaches.

"We took a year-long sabbatical to volunteer with charities and not-for-profits in exchange for accommodation, but most applications were long, strict, and often costly. The work exchange platforms we found were mostly geared toward younger backpackers and usually involved shared accommodation, which didn't suit us. So we started contacting places directly, offering our skills and support, and ended up learning all sorts of new skills and staying in the most incredible locations. After getting back from our year away, I couldn't stop thinking about why there wasn't a platform out there that could connect curious travellers that have quite a lot of life and work experience, with hosts offering private, comfortable accommodation that also want trusted and skilled help for their projects."

Who are we?

Our team

All of us at Far From absolutely love travelling, and all wish we could see so much more of the world. We've all had our own volunteering and work exchange experiences, and are working tirelessly to build the ultimate platform to connect like-minded hosts and volunteers across the world.

At our core, we're travellers who would rather share our skills than stay in another soulless hotel. We've built marketplaces before, and we know how powerful the sharing economy can be when done right.

Work-for-accommodation lets people travel longer, live locally, and connect culture to culture, and we're here to make that movement impossible to ignore.
