Wine harvest volunteering UK: FarFrom partners with WineGB East
FarFrom has partnered with WineGB East, the regional body representing vineyards and wineries across the East of England.
FarFrom is a work-for-accommodation (WFA) platform connecting volunteers with hosts across the country, from stately homes and glamping sites to farms and rural retreats. We're based in Norwich, right in the heart of WineGB East's patch, so this partnership feels like a homecoming as much as an announcement. And with the wine harvest volunteering season in the UK just weeks away, the timing couldn't be better!
Who are WineGB East?
WineGB East brings together vineyards and winemakers across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Through events, tastings, awards and vineyard experiences, they connect wine lovers with the people and places behind some of the country's most celebrated bottles.
The East of England is no quiet corner of the wine map. The UK is now home to more than 1,100 vineyards, with Essex the third most-planted county in the country and Suffolk in the top 10 (WineGB Industry Report, 2025). This region is helping shape the future of English wine.
Why vineyards and work-for-accommodation (WFA) fit so well
The WFA model is simple. Volunteers contribute a few hours of practical help each day, and hosts provide a private place to stay. No money changes hands between members.
For vineyards, an extra pair of hands at busy periods makes a real difference: winter pruning, canopy work through the summer, bottling, cellar door support, and above all, the harvest. For volunteers, a vineyard placement offers something you can't buy: living and working among the vines, learning the craft from the people who make the wine.
Our vineyard host in Worcestershire is one of the most popular listings on the platform with upcoming bookings planned over summer. There's clearly an appetite for this, and now we want to bring it home to the East.
What this means for vineyards
Through this partnership, WineGB East members can list their vineyard on FarFrom and reach volunteers who are actively looking for exactly this kind of placement. Our volunteers are typically aged 25 to 60, often couples, and many are professionals on career breaks bringing genuine skills with them.
You don't need a spare cottage or annexe to take part. If you have space for a campervan and access to basic facilities, that counts too. Plenty of our volunteers travel by van and actively seek out rural pitches.
What this means for volunteers
Grape picking in the UK typically runs from late September through October, and hosts often confirm their volunteers weeks in advance. If a harvest placement is on your list for this year, now is the time to start looking. Come and say hello on Saturday 18 July
We're marking the start of this partnership in person. FarFrom will be at the WineGB East Awards & Wine Festival at Suffolk Food Hall on Saturday 18 July, alongside winemakers from across the region, over 60 wines, masterclasses and this year's award winners. If you're going, come and find us - We would love to talk vines, vans and everything in between.
