Mixed traditional working farm, West Berkshire

Key info:

  • 4-5hrs per day, 2 days off per week

Accomodation:

Our traditional farm house is situated within an area of outstanding natural beauty in the North Wessex Downs which is within the Berkshire, Hampshire and Wiltshire borders. We have a 4 bedroom house in Inkpen, surrounded by lots of walks and cycling routes along the wayfarers way leading upto Combe Gibbet a well known historic site and is the highest Chalk hill in the UK. The farming enterprise is mainly sheep, cattle and pigs with a few rare breed chickens and goats to compliment the Care Farm and the new Glamping Site which is a recent diversification on the farm.

For volunteers we have two onsuite spare rooms, double/twin beds.

What we need help with:

We have ongoing projects to finish off, including finishing stables, renovating a Shepherds hut, chopping wood, planting hedges, helping with the day to day running of the farm, hearding sheep & cattle, help with lambing in the spring, calving in the summer, pig husbandry and help with gardening tasks, making raised beds, sowing and planting flowers and vegetables and helping with the upkeep of the glamping site and I T Skills. (No two days are the same and there is always something that needs fixing/finishing on our working Farm).

What we are looking for:

No experience is required, just a willingness to learn and help out. We are very happy to collect from the nearby train station.

Flexible hours, around 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week Free time to explore the local area

Extra perks

Bikes available, a great way to see the Berkshire countryside. Cycle or walk upto Combe Gibbet 1.4 Miles away. A famous historic site set on top of Inkpen Hill. The Gibbet is just a stone's throw from Walbury Hill, the highest point in south east England, where Far - reaching views stretch before you (well worth a visit). Our local pub, The Crown and Garter pub, Cafe/village shop is just 500 meters away.

On site EV car charging point, TV, bikes, board games, honesty farm shop, wood fired pizza oven on Saturday night's and farm tours

Pets

We have two working sheep dogs called Flint and Ted who are both friendly

Local area

Hungerford is an historic town with antique shops and Canal boat trips. A Canal boat trip is a great way to explore this beautiful countryside around us, taking you through pretty villages and stopping off at local pubs for lunch. There are plenty of cycling and walking routes starting straight from the farm. London Paddington is just 1 hour from our nearby Kintbury train station. Our lives are centred around farming, food and countryside skills. We have a lifetime of farming experience which we would love to share, you will experience first hand what is involved in the running of a working farm and how things can differ from day to day especially when things don't go has planned, as no two days are the same.
