Meet the Host

Alpaca and sheep farm, Mid Wales

Key info:

  • 3hrs per day, 2 days off per week
  • Self catered
  • Alpaca and sheep care / content creation
  • Mid Wales, UK

Accomodation:

Volunteer accommodation is a two bedroom, self contained glamping pod with a hot tub that features everything you need for a comfortable stay - it even has underfloor heating to keep your toes toasty! The pod is set on a 90 acre sheep and alpaca farm, offering splendid views across 3 counties of Powys, Herefordshire and Shropshire which you can soak up from your private hot tub. Backing onto the Radnor Forest, there are walks aplenty accessible on foot from the pods or just a short drive away.

The accommodation can be occupied by two single volunteers, one couple, or two couples.

What we need help with:

You will be involved with the care of our 38 alpacas and 150 sheep (plus up to 300 lambs), which can include feeding, bedding pens, cleaning troughs, mucking out, halter training young alpacas, tidying fences and carrying out husbandry tasks like weighing and toenail trimming.

If you're not so keen on animals or donning a pair of wellies, we do have availability for volunteers who would prefer to create content for our glamping social media accounts.

Your schedule:

Flexible hours, around 3 hours a day, 5 days a week Free time to explore the local area

What we're looking for in volunteers:

  1. 3 hours per day

    Time commitment
5 days a week (Weekends off)
  2. Content creation
    Experience with content creation required.
  3. Willingness to learn
Experience with willingness to learn required.
  4. Resilience
At 1,500ft above sea level, we're rewarded with big skies and incredible views, but we're also exposed to the elements and it's often a coat colder here than in the village below, so volunteers who don't mind a bit of mud, wind or rain will feel right at home!
  5. Amiable
You'll be working alongside us as a small team, so being friendly and comfortable working with others goes hand in hand with the experience.
  6. Love for animals
Our farm is home to 150 sheep, a growing herd of alpacas, cats and a dog, so animal care is at the heart of daily life here. Experience is welcome, but not required, as respect and empathy matter most.

What you get

Wifi
TV with Netflix & Prime
Private hot tub
Alpacas as neighbours
Towels and linen
Incredible views

Pets

We have a flock of 150 sheep, a herd of 38 alpacas, 2 cats and a jack russell here at the farm.

Local area

Being so rural, public transport isn't a thing here, so you will need a car to get out and about to reach the local pub (15 minutes drive away) or the local towns (20 minutes drive away). The upside of rural life is the peace and quiet, the wildlife in abundance and the dark, starry skies at night.

The local area is very picturesque, with plenty of walks and stunning drives if you like to get out and about, massage services that can come to you if you want to unwind, or if you prefer and adrenaline rush, there is wild swimming, go karting or traditional viking games to explore!

Interested?

  • A little about yourself
  • Why you'd love to join us and help us out with our various projects
  • Any experience you have with the project help that we’ve listed above (not essential, but great to hear if you have it!)
