Thank you for considering volunteering with us. We are a not-for-profit farm in Hertfordshire combining sustainable food production, social care, education, and community engagement. Our aim is to enhance the countryside, support people with additional needs to learn and grow, conserve wildlife, and farm using ecological principles. The farm spans over 170 acres and includes orchards, vegetable gardens, woodlands, livestock, and wildlife habitats. We grow a wide range of fruit, vegetables, and herbs, and keep cattle, sheep, pigs, and poultry. We also run a café, farm shop, pub, events, camping, and a weekly food box delivery service. Volunteers are a key part of the farm and get involved in a variety of seasonal tasks including gardening, animal care, maintenance, and general farm work. We aim to match tasks to your interests while helping you learn practical skills. Accommodation is simple but comfortable, with shared facilities and a communal diner. Food is provided and Wi-Fi is available. We usually look for stays of 2 months or more so volunteers can fully experience life on the farm.

What we need help with: We’re looking for volunteers to support a wide range of activities at Church Farm Ardeley. Opportunities include helping with livestock such as cows, sheep, pigs, and small animals; assisting with horticulture in our fields and polytunnels; and supporting the sale of homegrown produce to the local community. Volunteers can also get involved in woodland management, ground maintenance, and ongoing construction projects across the farm. In addition, we run seasonal events like Easter, Halloween, and Christmas celebrations, as well as our rural care programme supporting adults with learning disabilities. There’s something for everyone who wants to learn, contribute, and be part of a thriving community farm in the Hertfordshire countryside.
