Volunteers become part of everyday life at the Farm and help us keep this special place welcoming, well cared for and running smoothly. Work may include helping to prepare and maintain the holiday accommodation, keeping the yard, tracks and fields clear and tidy, gardening and landscaping, painting, repairs and general maintenance. The tasks are varied and often depend on the season, the weather and what is happening on the farm. Volunteers are welcome to choose which activities they would prefer to help with. This is a good opportunity for practical, hardworking people who enjoy being outdoors, are happy to get stuck in and would like to experience life on a diversified family farm. In return, volunteers can enjoy peaceful countryside, woodland walks, beautiful views, time around our Friesian horses and the chance to explore Cartmel and the wider Lake District. The Farm is relaxed, friendly and welcoming, but it is also a real working farm where there is always plenty to do. Volunteers who are positive, flexible and willing to work as part of the team will find it a rewarding place to stay, meet new people and contribute to the future of a much-loved historic farm.

The Farm is within walking distance of the historic village of Cartmel, where volunteers can explore the medieval Priory, independent shops, cafés, traditional pubs and the racecourse, as well as visiting the home of Sticky Toffee Pudding! There are also local footpaths leading through the surrounding countryside, including walks towards Hampsfell, with far-reaching views across Morecambe Bay and the Lake District fells. The nearby town of Grange-over-Sands has a promenade, gardens, shops and a railway station, while Lake Windermere, just a short bus ride away, and the wider Lake District offer hiking, cycling, boat trips, paddleboarding and other outdoor activities. Volunteers can also visit attractions such as Fell Foot, the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, historic houses and picturesque Lakeland villages, making the Farm a great base for exploring the area during time off.
