There are views from the cottage to Cornwall almost on the edge of Dartmoor in a tiny hamlet of five proprties surrounded by farmland. I need helpers to maintain the place for the dogs that we rescue here and have up for adoption. People who have adopted dogs from us bring their pets to socialise and run free in the two small fields here. The owners socialise their dogs and are able to socialise and make friendships themselves. This place has no funding we rely totally on volunteers to help with the upkeep of the house where the dogs live in and the fencing and garden/fields two acres altogether. There are outbuildings that often need repair or general maintenance/painting tidying etc. The dogs all live in the house I don't use kennels, they need to become used to living with people some of them haven't done this before and can be nervous/shy but it is wonderful to see them coming out of their shell and wanting to engage. It is generally peaceful here with a good community spirit. The dogs that are more sociable love being with us in the garden whilst we make paths and general areas clearer for them. We raise plants to sell to help support them too so this can be very much part of what you may be asked to help with.
Help needed
We need help with a mix of tasks around the site, anything from repairs to fundraising to clearing overgrown areas to help planting vegetables.
