About

The property has a cosy shepherd’s hut in a secluded orchard for guests to stay in. There are always different jobs to get stuck into around the farm, mostly outdoors, although there’s usually the odd job in the barn for those really rough weather days. We’re close to the Mendips, which are great for caving, climbing, walking and all sorts of outdoor activities. We’re also only around a 30-minute bus ride from the centre of Bristol, so although you’ll be staying in a peaceful countryside setting, it’s easy to get into the city and enjoy everything Bristol has to offer. It would suit someone who enjoys being outdoors, doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty and likes a bit of variety in what they’re doing. There are various jobs that I am hoping to gain some help to speed up progress with. Tree pruning, removing brambles, gardening, painting metal work, applying wood preserve, path laying, goat fensing.

Accommodation

Private Self-Contained Unit
Bedding and towels are provided, and there’s a small desk space in the hut. We have plenty of equipment and facilities around the farm, so if there’s anything else you need during your stay, just ask and we’ll likely be able to help.

Information

Meals

The shepherd’s hut is modern, warm and well insulated, but it doesn’t have its own kitchen. We can provide plates, cutlery and other basics, and there’s a farm shop and a pub within walking distance. We’re happy to provide the occasional meal, most likely lunch on working days, but generally we’re looking for volunteers who are happy to make their own arrangements for meals.

Local area

We’re surrounded by countryside but still within easy reach of Bristol. The Mendip Hills are nearby, with plenty of walking, cycling, climbing and caving, as well as lots of villages, pubs and places to explore. There are some great outdoor spots nearby, including Blagdon Lake and Chew Valley Lake for walking and wildlife, Burrington Combe for walking and climbing, and Cheddar Gorge for its caves, walks and spectacular scenery. Bristol city centre is around a 30-minute bus ride away, so it’s easy to head in for the day or evening for live music, food, bars, museums and everything else the city has to offer. Closer to home, there are countryside walks straight from the farm, as well as a local pub and farm shop within walking distance. It’s a good base for someone who enjoys the outdoors but also wants the option of getting into Bristol without needing to stay in the city.

The map shows the approximate area. The exact location is shared once a stay is confirmed.
