Rural, peaceful farmhouse
Meet the Host
Slow, peaceful stay in Suffolk farmhouse
Key info:
- 4-5hrs per day, 2 days off per week
- All meals provided
- Gardening/ Decorating / general property maintenance
- Halesworth, Suffolk, UK
Accomodation:
We have two spare rooms, both with double beds for volunteers to stay in. The bathroom would be a shared bathroom.
The house is situated just outside of a small Suffolk village, all you can hear is birdsong when you wake up in the morning, so if you’re after some peace and quiet, we can certainly help with that!
What we need help with:
We have several ongoing projects, and depending on your background and skillset (and what you like doing) we can do any of them. There’s always plenty of gardening to do, we’re always planting new trees and chopping up dead ones across the estate. We have several rooms that still need painting, several sanding jobs for stairs and shutters, plenty of hole filling/ plastering and many more odd-job DIY tasks. We’re laying a new patio in the spring/ summer and would love help with that. And will soon be digging more vegetable beds for our ever-growing allotment. In summer we have lots of fruit to pick in the orchard and would love help making jams. We also keep bees, and we’d be very happy to impart our knowledge on bee keeping and let you have a go at collecting honey if it’s the right time of year.
Your schedule:
Flexible hours, around 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week Free time to explore the local area
What we're looking for in volunteers:
-
4-5 hours per day
Time commitment5 days a week (Weekends off)
What you get
Extra perks
We have a moat around the back of the house with small row boats, plenty of gorgeous walks right from our doorstep, a treehouse (with heating and electricity!), bikes for you to use and enough board games to fill a small van!
Pets
We have one spaniel who love attention and cuddles. We see deer, rabbits and foxes on a regular basis, and also have a resident otter and terrapins that visit our moat.
Local area
Our local village has a pub/cafe, it’s about a 10-15 min walk or a 5 min cycle down the lane. Halesworth is the biggest down, which is an 8 min drive, that has plenty of cute shops, cafe’s, pubs and lots of history. We’re a stones throw from Southwold, Aldeburgh and some other beautiful Suffolk coastal towns, and we often spend our weekends there with our 2 boys (10 years old) and would love for volunteers to come with us.
Interested?
Send us a message and tell us:
- A little about yourself
- Why you'd love to join us and help us out with our various projects
- Any experience you have with the project help that we’ve listed above We’re looking forward to meeting like-minded people who are interested in staying with us.
Meals
We’ll provide breakfast lunch and dinner, we eat together as a family for dinner. Breakfast is just grab whatever you want (cereal, jams, toast etc) and lunch is often the same thing - We have plenty of things for sandwiches, and often make homemade soup.
