The farmhouse is a Georgian manor, built in 1779, on the foundations of a Tudor property. We live in the glorious West Sussex countryside, surrounded by wonderful nature. Depending on the time of year, you may hear barn owls, cuckoos, woodpeckers, nightingales, and occasionally storks from the nearby Knepp rewilding project make an appearance. After many decades of neglect, this tumbledown farm is in need of love and restoration, and is a place all about tumble elegance with nature at the forefront of everything we do. This is a volunteer’s opportunity to make a lasting difference, with a positive impact to the estate and wildlife. Although private and secluded, we are close to London (50mins by train from Horsham), and Brighton (25mins by car/40mins by bus). Volunteers would benefit hugely by having their own car in order to explore local places, but there is a (slow) bus which takes you to Brighton and Horsham.

As this is a working farm, no two days or weeks are the same! Projects vary according to the seasons and the weather. We need help with everything and anything. It could be mowing the lawn, tree identification in the new woodland, rebuilding a brick wall, installing fencing, gardening, weeding, planting, hedge cutting, carpentry, DIY, painting walls, plumbing. Experience of Tractor driving and good knowledge of safety and use of Garden machinery are an added bonus, but we can also teach you.
